About Roger McDowell
Roger McDowell made his MLB debut in 1985 for the New York Mets as a relief pitcher with a deadly sinker ball pitch. The following season, McDowell recorded the win in game 7 of the Mets World Series win. McDowell went on to pitch for several other teams in both the National and American Leagues, retiring from playing in 1996. Known for his clubhouse and dugout pranks, McDowell pitched in 723 games, posting a 70-70 record with a career 3.30 ERA and 524 strikeouts. McDowell became a pitching coach for the first time in 2002 for the South Georgia Waves, the single-A affiliate of the LA Dodgers. He was promoted to AAA until in 2005 he was named the pitching coach for the Atlanta Braves. McDowell has been with the Braves for all 9 seasons of his MLB coaching career and has helped keep the Braves rotations ERA in the top-5 of the MLB every year since 2009.
