About Alan Trammell
Alan Trammell was one of the best shortstops of his day and a Detroit Tigers legend. Trammell played his entire 20-year career with the Tigers and was a six-time All-Star. Always lauded in the field, he won four Gold Gloves. For 19 of his 20 seasons, he teamed with second baseman Lou Whitaker to form one of the most iconic double play combinations in baseball history. The duo actually debuted together in the same 1977 game against the Boston Red Sox. The Tigers won the 1984 World Series and Trammell was named Series MVP, hitting .450 with two home runs. He now serves as a special assistant to the general manager in Detroit, but had a long coaching career following his retirement in 1996. Trammell coached the Tigers and San Diego Padres before getting a shot to manage back in Detroit. His three seasons at the helm of his former team did not go as planned, but he is still beloved in the Motor City. Following his managerial tenure, Trammell also had coaching stints with the Chicago Cubs and Arizona Diamondbacks.
