Pierre Turgeon

Pierre Turgeon played 21 seasons in the NHL with the Buffalo Sabres, New York Islanders, Montreal Canadiens, St. Louis, Dallas Stars, and Colorado Avalanche from 1987 to 2007. Turgeon grew up in Canada and played junior hockey for the Canadian national team. He also played baseball and represented Canada at the 1982 Little League World Series. He joined the Sabres as the No. 1 overall pick in the 1987 NHL Entry Draft. Once he arrived in Buffalo he made an immediate impact, scoring 14 goals and adding 28 assists during his rookie season in 1987. Over the next two decades he earned five trips to the NHL All-Star game and won the Lady Byng Memorial Trophy in 1993 for his example of sportsmanship and gentlemanly conduct combined with his excellent play. By the time he retired in 2007 with the Colorado Avalanche he had accumulated 515 goals and 812 assists for a total of 1,327 points in 1,294 games. He also added 35 goals and 62 assists in 109 career games. Throughout his career he was one of the most consistent players in the National Hockey League, and continues to be a valuable ambassador for the game.
