Oleksandr Usyk

Oleksandr Usyk was born on January 17, 1987, in Simferopol, Crimea. He is an undefeated Ukrainian heavyweight boxing champion and Olympic gold medalist. He rose through the cruiserweight division to claim the undisputed title and sweep the World Boxing Super Series before moving to heavyweight in 2019 to defeat Anthony Joshua for the unified championship in 2021 and again in 2022.

He made history in May 2024 by defeating Tyson Fury via split decision in Riyadh to become the first undisputed four-belt heavyweight champion since 2000. His rematch in December reinforced that status and solidified his legacy. He has been named Fighter of the Year by The Ring and the BWAA (2018, 2024) and is among the world's top earners with an estimated $101 million in 2024.

He is known for his disciplined work ethic and unconventional training which includes early mornings, handstand drills, swimming marathons and cognitive exercises and he blends athleticism with sharp strategy under the guidance of Anatoly Lomachenko.

He is a devoted Orthodox Christian who finds guidance in his faith during difficult times. He has talked about touching a crucifix for divine strength and receiving emotional support from soldiers and fans in wartime Ukraine in his interviews.

He is a family man outside of the ring. He is married to Kateryna and they have four children and they live in Kyiv. He also writes poetry, studies and stays deeply involved in Ukraine’s morale often citing his father’s legacy and the resilience of his compatriots.
