About Carol Polis
Carol Polis is the first ever professional boxing judge in the world. Prior to becoming a boxing judge, Polis was a multisport athlete during high school where she was a swimmer, diver, and tennis player. She never imaged becoming a boxing judge as she despised boxing. Polis’ ex-husband who was a former boxing referee and he dragged Polis to fights and he gave her a quick lesson on how to score a round. Polis was appointed the position on February 1, 1973 by Governor Milton Sharpe. Polis has scored over 27 title fights as well as nontitle fights that have involved Mike Tyson and Larry Holmes. Polis has also judged internationally in countries such as Japan, Italy, Argentina, Denmark and France. According to Polis, the key to judging is to view each round as a separate fight. During the filming of Rocky V, Polis was seated ringside as a judge.
