Floyd Mayweather Sr.

Floyd Mayweather Sr. is an American boxing trainer and a welterweight contender during the 1970s and 1980s. Mayweather is the senior member of the Mayweather clan. During his time as a trainer, Mayweather fought in a total of 35 fights, where he won 28 and 18 of those were won by KOs. He only lost 6 of his fights and had 1 draw. In 1977, Mayweather won the U.S. Championship Tournament against Miguel Barreto. As a trainer, Mayweather focuses on defense and a stiff jab and he teaches his boxers the defensive technique known as the shoulder roll. Mayweather has trained Chad Dawson, Jose Guzman and Laila Ali. Mayweather coached his son and taught him the defensive skills that made him a champion. Mayweather told De La Hoya that he would train him against his son for the May 5, 2007 fight, but he demanded a $2 million fee. Shortly after, De La Hoys changed his mind and used Freddie Roach instead.
