About Laphonso Ellis
LaPhonso Ellis is a retired basketball player from the National Basketball Association. Ellis attended the University of Notre Dame and the team qualified for the NCAA tournament during his freshman and sophomore years. The team was a runner-up during the 1992 NIT Tournament. During the 1991-92 year, Ellis was one of four captains on the team. Ellis led Notre Dame in blocked shots in each of his four seasons and he is the only player in Notre Dame history to do so. The Denver Nuggets selected Ellis as the fifth overall pick in the 1992 NBA Draft. Ellis was named the NBA All-Rookie First Team in 1993. During the 1994-95 season, Ellis suffered with injuries and only played in six games. Ellis recorded his best season with the Nuggets in 1996-97. After six years with Denver, Ellis signed with the Atlanta Hawks as a free agent. He spent two years with the Hawks before going to the Minnesota Timberwolves. In 2001, Ellis signed with the Miami Heat until he retired after the 2003 season.
