About Allan Houston
Notorious for big game heroics, Allan Houston became one of the most well-knownand highest paid NBA players in the 1990s and 2000s. Houston averaged 17.3 points per game during his 12-year career with the Detroit Pistons and New York Knicks. He was a two time All-Star and won a gold medal in the Olympics with Team USA in 2000.
Houston saw postseason action five times including a trip to the 1999 NBA Finals with the Knicks. The most famous play of his career came against the Miami Heat in the 1999 Eastern Conference quarterfinals. Houston made a jumper with 0.8 seconds on the clock to win the game and the series over the top seeded Heat.
In 2001, he signed what was one of the biggest contract extensions in league history, a six-year, 100-million-dollar pact. After retiring in 2005, Houston spent time as a special assistant to the general manager for the Knicks and GM of their G-League affiliate, the Westchester Knicks.
Houston, a native of Louisville, Kentucky, played his college basketball at Tennessee, where his number is retired. He was a two-time All-American for the Vols.
