Gail Goodrich Biography

Gail Goodrich is a retired NBA guard who played 14 seasons in the league with three different teams. Prior to his time in the NBA, Goodrich played collegiately at UCLA under legendary coach John Wooden. In four seasons with the Bruins, Goodrich helped the team win two National Championships, and left as the school’s all-time leading scorer. In 1965, Goodrich earned All American honors, and was selected by the Los Angeles Lakers in the NBA Draft. For the next three seasons, Goodrich would play sparingly for the Lakers, eventually leaving the team to join the Phoenix Suns through the expansion draft. With the Suns, Goodrich would emerge into a star, earning his first of five All Star nods. In 1970, Goodrich was traded back to the Lakers, where he would lead the team in scoring multiple times, earn four more All Star honors, and help the team win the NBA titles in 1972. After a brief three year stint with the New Orleans Jazz, Goodrich decided to retire, ending his career with over 19,000 points and eventually being enshrined into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 1996.
