About Artis Gilmore
Artis Gilmore was one of the stars of the high-flying American Basketball Association and later brought that same excitement to the NBA. Gilmore’s 18 year basketball career got him elected to the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2011. Between the ABA and NBA, he was an 11 time All-Star. While with the Kentucky Colonels of the ABA, Gilmore won a league championship in 1975 and was named league MVP in 1972. When the ABA was disbanded, he was the first overall pick in the 1976 dispersal draft by the Chicago Bulls. A dominating offensive center, Gilmore led the NBA in field goal percentage in four consecutive seasons while with the Bulls. Gilmore played two collegiate seasons at Jacksonville University, leading the Dolphins to the NCAA title game in 1970. He is only one of five college basketball players to ever average 20 points and 20 rebounds a game. Gilmore is the Special Assistant to the President at JU.
