Clay Buchholz had high expectations placed upon him from the moment he broke in with the Boston Red Sox in 2007. In just his second start, Buchholz threw a no-hitter.
The two-time All-Star first put everything together for a full season in 2010, going 17-7 with a 2.33 ERA. He was off to an even better season in 2013, but got injured and finished 12-1 with a 1.74 ERA. Buchholz assumed the role as Red Sox ace in 2015 by starting Opening Day.
The Red Sox originally drafted him in the supplemental first round of the 2005 MLB Draft. Buchholz was the 2006 Boston Minor League Pitcher of the Year and selected to the 2007 All-Star Futures Game. During his career, he has participated in various efforts to raise money for cancer research including work with the Jimmy Fund.
