Albert Belle was a feared 1990s slugger for the Cleveland Indians, Chicago White Sox, and Baltimore Orioles. Belle was a five-time All-Star and five-time Silver Slugger winner. In 1995, he was the first player to hit 50 doubles and 50 home runs in the same season. Only six other players have had nine straight 100 RBI seasons. Belle is also only one of six to have eight seasons of 30 home runs and 100 RBIs. Unfortunately, he retired at 34 years of age due to osteoarthritis in his hip. The Shreveport, Louisiana native played college baseball at LSU and was a two-time first-team All-SEC pick. Belle was an Eagle Scout in his youth and attended Huntington High School, where he was both a baseball and football star. Had his career been longer, uninterrupted by the 1994 strike, and Belle’s stand-offish behavior with the media lessened, he would have gained wide support for the Baseball Hall of Fame.
