About Charles Lee
Charles Lee entered the world on November 11, 1984, in Washington D.C. He currently serves as the head coach of the NBA's Charlotte Hornets while being recognized as a prominent figure in contemporary basketball. The Quince Orchard High School graduate developed his skills at Bucknell University where he received Patriot League Player of the Year recognition while guiding his team to consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances in 2005 and 2006. After his four-year overseas professional basketball career in Israel, Belgium and Germany Lee moved to finance before returning to basketball as Bucknell's assistant coach in 2012.
The NBA coaching career of Lee started in 2014 when he joined Mike Budenholzer's Atlanta Hawks staff before moving to the Milwaukee Bucks. The Bucks achieved their 2021 NBA Championship under his leadership as associate head coach while maintaining top-tier regular-season results. He advanced to become the lead assistant coach for the Boston Celtics before leading the team to their second championship in 2024.
The Charlotte Hornets announced Lee as their new head coach on May 9, 2024 when he signed a four-year deal to join the organization following the Celtics' playoff campaign. His positive energy combined with his ability to build strong relationships with players and his emphasis on accountability has brought a fresh dynamic to the team. During his decade-long NBA coaching career Lee has led his teams to a 510–291 (.637) regular-season record while securing seven division titles and five Eastern Conference #1 seeds and nine playoff appearances.
The combination of his Bucknell scholarship-free experience and NCAA tournament victories and overseas professional career and Wall Street work and NBA assistant championships has developed Lee's relationship-focused coaching approach. His career path demonstrates how one can succeed through determination while adjusting to new situations and building strategic development.
