About Bimbo Coles
Bimbo Coles had a successful 14-year playing career in the NBA. The Miami Heat originally acquired him in a draft-nighttrade in 1990. Coles played his college basketball at Virginia Tech, where he was a three-time first-team All-Metro Conference selection. As a sophomore, he was the conference's Co-Player of the Year. Colestotaled 2,484 points and led the Metro in scoring three straight years. He finished as the school and conference career scoring leader. Coles has his #12 jersey retired by the Hokies. While at Virginia Tech, he was also a member of the 1988 Olympic team that won a bronze medal. Coles spent the first six seasons of his career with the Miami Heat. He averaged double-figure scoring in five of those seasons. Coles was among the early standouts for the new Heat franchise. He went on to play for the Golden State Warriors, Atlanta Hawks, Cleveland Cavaliers and Boston Celtics. Coles returned briefly to Miami in 2003 and played in 22 games before retiring. He is a member of the Virginia Sports Hall of Fame and the Virginia Tech Sports Hall of Fame.
