Former NBA Standout Bimbo Coles Speaks at the Virginia Commonwealth Games Opening Ceremony in July

Bimbo Coles is undoubtedly one of the greatest basketball players ever produced by the state of Virginia. It is fitting that he has been selected as the speaker for the opening ceremonies at this year's 27th annual Virginia Commonwealth Games.

The opening ceremonies are on July 21st. Liberty University in Lynchburg is hosting the event.

In addition to speaking, Coles will also conduct a clinic for 75 aspiring basketball players. There were more than 9,600 athletes that competed in 55 different sports during last year's games.

Coles was a star at Virginia Tech, leading the Metro Conference in scoring three straight years. He was a three-time first-team All-Metro pick and the 1988 Co-Player of the Year in the conference.

After setting school and conference career scoring records, Coles began his NBA career with the Miami Heat. He was one of the franchise's early stars and spent six seasons with the squad.

Coles also played for the Golden State Warriors, Atlanta Hawks, Cleveland Cavaliers and Boston Celtics before retiring with the Heat in 2004. He is a member of the Virginia Sports Hall of Fame and the Virginia Tech Sports Hall of Fame.
