About Xander Bogaerts
Xander Bogaerts is one of the top shortstops in baseball with the San Diego Padres. Bogaerts spent the first decade of his career with the Boston Red Sox, making four All-Star teams. He was also a five-time Silver Slugger recipient and set a franchise record for games started at shortstop.
Bogaerts had a pivotal role upon his Boston debut in 2013, hitting .250 in 18 games.The Red Sox kept him on the roster for the postseason and he was impactful. Boston would win the World Series and Bogaerts hit .296 in 12 playoff games. He started every game of the World Series at third base, replacing fellow prospect Will Middlebrooks.That 2013 season also saw him win USA Today Minor League Player of the Year. Bogaerts won a second championship with the Red Sox in 2018.
Bogaerts is the fifth major league player from the small Dutch Caribbean island of Aruba. As a result, he represented the Netherlands in the 2013 World Baseball Classic.The 16-year-old Bogaerts was signed by Boston in 2009.
