About Victor Espinoza
Victor Espinoza grew up riding horses on a dairy farm in Mexico before coming to America to pursue his career as a jockey. He paid his way through jockey school in Mexico City and by 1994 was a leading apprentice jockey at Bay Meadows racetrack in California. In 2000, Espinoza first turned heads on top of Spain as they won the Breeders Cup Distaff. 2 years later, Espinoza had the season of a lifetime aboard War Emblem as the pair won both the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness Stakes, which earned him an ESPY for Jockey of the Year. Espinoza continued to dominate as one of racings top jockeys from 2002-2006 as he regularly finished in the top 10 on the National Earnings List. After a few mediocre years where Espinoza wasnt really on top of the world, he was selected to ride California Chrome and started a 6 for 6 streak with the horse that included the Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes, the second of both for Espinozas career. In 2013, he reached the 3,000 win mark and has continued to add to that mark ever since.
