About Gary Stevens
Gary Stevens is a horse racing jockey, actor and sportscaster. Stevens rode his first horse at three years old and was assisted by his mother. When he was seven, Stevens had to wear a hip brace for 19 months as he was diagnosed with Perthes Syndrome. In 1979, Stevens dropped out of school to pursue a career as a jockey. By 14, Stevens was riding American Quarter Horses and at 16 he switched to Thoroughbreds. Stevens won his first at 17 years old on a horse that was trained by his father. Stevens has won three Kentucky Derby’s, three Preakness Stakes, 3 Belmont Stakes and two Kentucky Oaks. Stevens’ career has been plagued with multiple significant injuries. He has appeared in the movie Seabusicit, and he had brief appearances in the TV series Wildfire. Stevens has also served as a racing analyst for TVG and NBC Sports. Stevens announced on January 3, 2013 he announced that he was coming out of retirement to ride horses as a professional jockey again.
