About Terry Bowden
With a legendary last name and a colorful personality, Terry Bowden had great success over five decades in college football. Bowden is theson of coaching legendBobbyBowden. After a short playing career at West Virginia, Bowdenbecame a graduate assistant under his father at FSU,and became the head coach at SalemCollege in 1983. Bowden’s success at Salem earned him the position of head coach atSamfordUniversity in 1987. After five years at Samford, Bowden was chosen to be the next AuburnUniversity head coach in 1992,where he would go undefeated in his first season.
Following his resignation from Auburn in 1998, Bowden would go on to be ananalyst and broadcaster for ABC Sports, until finally returning to coaching in 2008 with theUniversity of Northern Alabama. Experiencingsuccess with Northern Alabama, Bowden washired as the head coach of the University of Akron in 2011. He coached the Zips for seven seasons, winning the MAC East Division in 2017. Bowden finished his coaching career with three years at Louisiana Monroe. Overall, he went 185-140-2 as a head coach.
