George Seifert

NFL legend George Seifert was an usher at San Francisco 49ers games as a kid, and hoped to one day make it down on the field as a player or a coach.  Little did he know that one day he’d make both those dreams come true.  After playing college ball at the University of Utah he signed on as a grad assistant for one year at Westminster College before taking over the reigns as head coach at age 25.  From 1966 to 1974 he served as an assistant at Iowa, Oregon and Stanford and displayed a rare leadership quality that landed him the head-coaching job at Cornell University in 1975. A year later he re-joined the Stanford coaching staff for another four years before getting the long awaited call to coach for the 49ers.

Seifert’s tenure with the 49ers as an assistant from 1980 to 1988 was a dream come true, but when he was elevated to head coach in 1989 it got even better.  He’d go on to lead his hometown team to two Super Bowl victories in 1990 and 1995, becoming one of very few head coaches to win a super bowl as a rookie head coach.  Seifert coached the 49ers until 1996 and returned to the NFL to coach the Carolina Panthers from 1999 to 2001.  Since his retirement he’s been a trusted voice in football circles and has remained a valuable ambassador for the game of football.
