About Rick Carlisle
Rick Carlisle is one of a small group of people to win an NBA Championship as both a player and as a coach. In his playing career, he led his team to a Final Four appearance in 1984 and ended his collegiate career with an average of 12.5 points per game and 3.3 rebounds per game. He was drafted in the 3rd round of the 1984 NBA Draft and went on to play alongside Larry Bird and win an NBA Championship in 1986. After playing in his final game, Rick became a coach. He began as an assistant with the New Jersey Nets, Trail Blazers, and Pacers before getting his first head coaching position with the Detroit Pistons. After a trip to the Eastern Conference Finals in 2003, Carlisle took over the Pacers and led them to the Conference Finals the very next season.
Despite his earlier coaching stops, Carlisle is best known for his 13-year tenure with the Dallas Mavericks. He became the winningest coach in franchise history and helped deliver the NBA title in 2011. In 2021, Carlisle returned to the Pacers organization as head coach.
