About Mike Montgomery
Mike Montgomery was born in sunny Long Beach, California and got his start in college coaching as an assistant basketball coach at Boise State University. After three years with the Broncos he was hired as the head coach the University of Montana. During his eight seasons at Montana he led his team to 154 wins and a Big Sky Conference Championship in 1986. After the 1986 season he signed on as the new head coach at the Stanford University. During 19 seasons at Stanford his teams won 393 games and he led them to 12 NCAA Tournament appearances, including a Final Four appearance in 1998, an Elite Eight appearance in 2001 and Sweet Sixteen appearance in 1997. After the 2007 season he was hired as the head coach at the University of California, where he led the Bears to a Pac-12 Conference Championship in 2010 and three NCAA Tournament appearances from 2008 to 2014. Coach Montgomery announced his retirement from coaching in 2014 with 677 career wins. His career honors include being named Pac-10 Coach of the Year four times, the Naismith College Coach of the Year in 2000 and earning the John R. Wooden “Legends of Coaching” Lifetime Achievement Award in 2004.
