About Michael Spinks
Michael Spinks was one of the topboxers in the world during his professional career that lasted from 1977-1988. Before becoming a pro, Spinks racked up an amateur record of 93-7, was a two-time National Golden Gloves champion and won the 1976Olympic gold medal for middleweights. He started his pro career out 31-0. From 1983-85, Spinks was the undisputed light heavyweight champion of the world and had ten successful title defenses. He moved up to heavyweight in 1985 and defeated Larry Holmes in his first bout. That began Spinks' three-year reign as the lineal heavyweight champion. He suffered the only loss of his career in his final fight with Mike Tyson in 1988. Spinks is a member of the International Boxing Hall of Fame and the World Boxing Hall of Fame.
