About Marcus Smart
Marcus Smart is a point guard for the Los Angeles Lakers. Smart established his reputation as one of the most tenacious defenders in the NBA during his first nine-year run with the Boston Celtics. He was named NBA Defensive Player of the Year in 2022 and was a three-time member of the All-Defensive First Team while in Boston.
Smart was originally the sixth overall pick out of Oklahoma State in the 2015 NBA Draft. In two seasons with the Cowboys, he became one of the school’s all-time best. With Smart, OSU made the NCAA Tournament both seasons and he averaged 16.6 points per game over his career. He was a two-time first-team All-Big 12 pick and after his freshman season was named Big 12 Player of the Year. A native of Flower Mound, Texas, he attended Edward S. Marcus High School. Smart led the school to a 115-6 record and two 5A state titles and was a McDonald’s All-American.
