About Kelvin Sampson
Kelvin Sampson is looking to bring the same level of success to the University of Houston that he has at his other coaching stops. Sampson has been a college basketball head coach at Montana Tech, Washington State, Oklahoma, and Indiana. He had his greatest success during a 12-year run with the Sooners. Sampson never missed the NCAA Tournament and went 279-109. Oklahoma won the Big 12 Tournament three times and advanced to the Final Four in 2002. That year, Sampson was the NABC National Coach of the Year. In his first season at OU, he was the AP National Coach of the Year. Sampson also won at Washington State, one of the toughest places to sustain success in college basketball. He started his coaching career as an assistant at Michigan State. While away from college basketball, Sampson jumped to the NBA and was on the coaching staffs of the Milwaukee Bucks and Houston Rockets.
