About John Franco
John Franco is one of the best relief pitchers in baseball history. Franco has a National League record with 1,119 games pitched and his 424 saves are the most ever by a left-hander. He led the NL in saves three times and was a two-time Rolaids Relief Man of the Year. The four-time All-Star played 14 of his 20 major league seasons for the New York Mets. Franco was the Mets captain during his final four years with the club and is a member of the team’s Hall of Fame. The Mets made the World Series in 2000 and he was the team’s setup man behind new closer Armando Benitez. Franco had great early-career success with the Cincinnati Reds, making three of his four All-Star appearances while with the team. As a Brooklyn, New York native went to St. John’s University and has essentially been a New Yorker his whole life.
