About Dave Dravecky
Dave Dravecky has one of the most inspiring comeback stories in baseball history. Dravecky had had a successful career before a cancerous tumor was found in his pitching arm in 1988. Surgery to remove the tumor removed half of his deltoid muscle. While he was told to pace his recovery, Dravecky wanted to pitch in 1989 and ended up joining the San Francisco Giants for the stretch run that season. Unfortunately, he broke his arm twice again before the year was over and was force to amputate the arm, ending his baseball career. Prior to the cancer diagnosis, Dravecky had been a serviceable big league pitcher. He was an All-Star in 1983 and won 14 games for the San Diego Padres. Following his career, Dravecky wrote two books about his comeback. His Christian faith has also been a pillar of what keeps him inspiring and persevering. Dravecky now speaks to groups all over and has given many the motivation needed to tackle their goals.
