John Beilein

John Beilein was most recently the head coach of the Cleveland Cavaliers after a successful run of over three decades in college basketball. He is best known for his time at the University of Michigan, where he took the Wolverines to the NCAA Tournament nine times. Beilein's teams won two Big Ten regular season and tournament titles. In 2013, Michigan finished as the national runner-ups. His path from a junior college to Division 1 coaching is highly admired by his peers in the professional.  No other active coach has won at least 20 games in a season at four different levels.  Only ten coaches have brought four different schools to the NCAA Tournament.  Overall, Beilein’s teams have participated in March Madness 13 times.  His coaching career began at Newfane High School in New York in 1975.  Beilein then coached at Erie Community College, Division III Nazareth College, and Division II Le Moyne College.  After 17 years as a high school and lower college head coach, he was finally hired at Canisius on the Division 1 level.  The Burt, New York native had grown up a fan of the school because his uncle played there.  Beilein also posted three 20-win seasons at both Richmond and West Virginia before arriving at Michigan.
