About Jim Deshaies
Jim Deshaies entered Major League Baseball in 1984 as the 1000th person to play for the New York Yankees. He was traded to the Houston Astros in 1985 and spent seven of his 12 big league seasons with the club. During his first full season in the majors, Deshaies went 12-5 with a 3.25 ERA and set a then-Astros record for rookie wins. A year later, he set a single-game record by striking out eight consecutive batters in a game against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Deshaies best season came in 1989, when he went 15-10 with a 2.93 ERA and 153 strikeouts. After leaving Houston, he spent time with the San Diego Padres, Minnesota Twins, San Francisco Giants and Philadelphia Phillies before retiring in 1995. From 1997-2012, Deshaies stayed active in the game as a member of the Astros' television broadcast team. He is currently a TV analyst for the Chicago Cubs.
