About Jay Paterno
Jay Paterno grew up around the game of football. After playing for his father at Penn State, legendary head coach Joe Paterno, he joined the Virginia coaching staff as a graduate assistant then headed to the University of Connecticut as a wide receivers coach. In 1994 he coached one year at James Madison as a quarterbacks coach before heading back to his alma mater to join his dad’s coaching staff. From 1995 to 1998 he was the tight ends coach for the Nittany Lions before taking over the reigns as the quarterbacks coach from 1999 to 2011. During his tenure as an assistant at Penn State he helped his father bring unprecedented success to the university and helped his father to what would be an NCAA record for career wins. His family name and legacy will live on forever in the minds of college football fans all over the country.
