Grant Hill

Grant Hill grew up around professional sports, often hanging around the Dallas Cowboys facilities as a kid with his father who was a running back in the NFL for 12 seasons. Growing up Hill played some football, but his real passion was basketball. In college Hill starred at Duke University, averaging 14.9 points and 6 rebounds per game during his four-year career and leading the Blue Devils to consecutive National Championships his freshman and sophomore seasons. His All-American career at Duke led him to being selected No. 1 overall pick by the Detroit Pistons in the 1994 NBA Draft, and his impact was quickly felt by the league. During his first two seasons in the league he led the NBA in All-Star votes and was named the coNBA Rookie of the Year in 1995. Despite several ankle surgeries Hill remained one of the top players in the league throughout his entire 19-year NBA career. By the time he left the court for good in 2013 he had earned eight All-Star selections and six First Team All-Pro nods. In 2011, two years before his retirement, Hill was elected to serve on the Board of Governers for the Basketball Hall of Fame and was named the winner of the highly prestigious Mannie Jackson – Basketball’s Human Spirit Award the following year for his hard work, dedication, and resilience both on the court and in the community.
