About Eddie Maple
At the age of 12, Eddie Maple first began riding horses and shortly realized that he would be doing it for a career. By 17 Maple was racing horses professionally and went on to have a career that has since landed him in the U.S. Racing Hall of Fame. Maple had an impressive second place finish on top of Riva Ridge in the 1973 Marlboro Cup, finishing a close second to racing legend Secretariat. Later that year, Maple got the ride of his life when he rode Secretariat to a victory at the Canadian International Stakes. Maple made multiple appearances in the Triple Crown, finishing a career best 2nd in the Kentucky Derby in 1982 and winning the Belmont Stakes twice (1980 on Temperence Hill and 1985 on Crème Fraiche). Eddie had 6 other major wins including three Travers Cups and a Kentucky Oaks win and in 1998 retired from the sport with 4,398 wins to his name.
