About Tom Durkin
When the gate drops and the horses let loose on the track, chances are Tom Durkin is the one calling the race. From 1984 to 2010 Durkin called every significant horse race for NBC Sports and finished his career in 2014 as an announcer for the New York Racing Association for which he served just under 25 years. Among his many notable accomplishments are the two Triple Crown races he called for NBC and the many Breeders Cup races he called for NBC. Some of his notable quotes include the phrase, “Coming down the stretch,” and “It’s a photo finish that doesn’t deserve a loser.” During his career Durkin established himself as one of the top voices in all of sports, recognizable with his tone and excitement for a sport that not many people understand, but everyone gets stoked for as the Triple Crown races amp up.
