About Daniel Okrent
Many people might not know the name Daniel Okrent right away, but he undoubtedly had shaped much about the way we follow sports today. Okrent has had a distinguished career as an author and journalist, but he is best known as the founder of fantasy sports. In 1979, he created Rotisserie League Baseball, which has spread throughout the country in many different formats. Okrent was an original inductee into the Fantasy Sports Hall of Fame and his story was featured in the 2010 ESPN 30 for 30 documentary, Silly Little Game. His other contributions to the sports world include inventing the baseball stat WHIP, introducing the country to statistician Bill James through a profile in Sports Illustrated and being an featured interviewee in the classic PBS documentary, Baseball.
Outside of sports, Okrent was the first public editor of The New York Times. He has written several books about different historical events, including "Great Fortune: The Epic of Rockefeller Center," which was a Pulitzer Prize for History finalist.
