About Cliff Ellis
Currently 27th in all time coaching wins in NCAA Div. 1 history, Cliff Ellis is looking to move up a few more spots on that list as head coach of Coastal Carolina University. Ellis began his coaching career at Cumberland University in 1972, where he also served as the schools Athletic Director. Ellis then turned around a South Alabama team that went from possibly dropping down a division to two NCAA Tournament appearances, the schools first top-10 national ranking, and three Sun Belt titles. After South Alabama, Ellis moved to Clemson University where he led the Tigers to their only ACC regular season title, three NCAA Tournament appearances, and was named ACC coach of the year. Ellis then took over the Tigers of Auburn University where he took them to two Sweet Sixteen appearances and an SEC Championship. In 2007, Ellis was named head coach of Coastal Carolina where he took the Chancellors to back to back conference championships in 2010 & 2011. Ellis has compiled 647 Div. 1 coaching victories and 5 conference coach of the year awards from three different conferences (2 ACC, 2 SEC, Big South).
