About Barry Alvarez
Barry Alvarez is best known as the greatest football coach in University of Wisconsin history.Over his 16-year run with Wisconsin, Alvarez compiled a 118-73-4 record, good for the most wins in UW history.He became a member of the College Football Hall of Fame in 2010.In 1993, Alvarez took the program to its first Rose Bowl in 30 years.That season, he won the AFCA and Bobby Dodd Coach of the Year Awards. Alvarez was also a two-time Big 10 Coach of the Year.The Badgers won their first Big 10 title in 37 years in 1999 and got three total under his watch.Alvarez's 11 bowl trips almost doubled the six bowl games Wisconsin had been to in their history prior to his arrival.After his tenure as coach, he also had a 17-year run as the school's athletic director.
