About Gene Chizik
Gene Chizik won a BCS National Championship as head coach of the Auburn Tigers in 2010. Chizik attended the University of Florida where he played linebacker for the Gators’ football team. Chizki’s coaching career began in 1986 at Seminole High School where he served as the defensive coordinator and the inside linebacker coach. In 1988, Chizik became a graduate assistant at Clemson where he worked with the outside linebackers. He also served as an assistant coach at Middle Tennessee, Stephen F. Austin, UCF, Auburn and Texas. Chizik received his first head coaching position in 2007 at Iowa State. Auburn then hired Chizik on December 13, 2008 as the head coach. In his first year with the Tigers, Chizik had a quick turnaround with the team when he helped them get to the 2010 Outback Bowl. In 2010, Chizik led the Tigers to the SEC Championship and the National Championship. After leaving Auburn following the 2012 season, Chizik took a break from coaching. He was the defensive coordinator at North Carolina in 2015 and 2016. After a stint as a broadcaster with the SEC Network, Chizik returned to UNC to run the defense in 2022 and 2023.
