About Wade Boggs
During his 18 year career, Wade Boggs amassed a resume that places him among the greatest hitters in baseball history. Boggs was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame and is one of the rare members of the 3000 hit club. He was selected to 12 straight All-Star teams and led the American League in hitting five times. Boggs was a star for the Boston Red Sox, won his only World Series with the New York Yankees in 1996, and finished his career with his hometown expansion team, the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. While with the Yankees, he won two Gold Gloves for his work at third base. His signing with the Devil Rays gave the new franchise some early sizzle. Boggs hit the first home run in franchise history and collected his 3000th hit with the club, which was also a long ball. He was drafted out of Plant High School by the Red Sox in the seventh round in 1976.
