About Larry Walker
Larry Walker is a former right fielder in Major League Baseball. Prior to his baseball career, Walker played ice hockey and dreamed of a career in the NHL as a goaltender. At 16, Walker was offered tryouts with Junior A teams in Regina, SK and Kelowna, BC as he played baseball for fun in the summer. He was cut form both teams and it was then that he decided to focus his athletic aspirations on baseball. Walker was selected to join the Canadian team at the 1984 World Youth Championships. Walker made his debut with the Montreal Expos on August 16, 1989. He became the first and only Canadian to win the Expos Player of the Year in 1992. Walker signed with the Colorado Rockies before the 1995 season and he was a major factor in helping them reach the playoffs for the first time. Walker went to the St. Louis Cardinals in 2004, where he spent one year before retiring.
