About Wacey Rabbit
Wacey Rabbit serves as the assistant coach for the Saskatoon Blades of the Western Hockey League (WHL) after his career as a professional ice hockey player. Born on November 16, 1986, in Lethbridge, Alberta, Rabbit is of First Nations descent and was raised on the Kainai Nation reserve. The Saskatoon Blades and Vancouver Giants provided Rabbit with his junior hockey start before he helped the Giants win the Memorial Cup championship in 2007. The Boston Bruins selected Rabbit with their 154th overall pick during the 2005 NHL Entry Draft before he played professionally in the American Hockey League (AHL), the ECHL and multiple European leagues including Norway, Italy and the Czech Republic. Throughout his 15-year professional career Rabbit demonstrated leadership abilities and playing talent by becoming captain of the Jacksonville Icemen and earning the ECHL point-scoring title in 2018–19.
Rabbit started his coaching career by joining the Alberni Valley Bulldogs as an assistant coach in the British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL) after his playing retirement in 2021. The Saskatoon Blades brought Rabbit back to their organization as an assistant coach during the 2022 season. Rabbit dedicates his time to support Indigenous youth sports participation while working as a hockey ambassador for the Indigenous Sport Council of Alberta. The couple resides in Edmonton, Alberta with Rabbit who is married to model and First Nations activist Ashley Callingbull.
