About Alexander Mogilny
Alexander Mogilny is a retired former Russian hockey player. Mogilny suited up for the Buffalo Sabres, Vancouver Canucks, Toronto Maple Leafs, and the New Jersey Devils during his 15 year NHL career. He was a six time All-Star and led the league in goals during the 92-93 season. In 1989, Mogilny was the first hockey player to ever defect from the former Soviet Union. He is one of just 25 players and six Russians who found his place in the Triple Gold Club by winning a World Championship, Olympic gold medal, and Stanley Cup.
Mogilny was acquired by the Devils during their run to the Cup in 2000 and scored five postseason goals. For the 02-03 season, he was awarded the Lady Byng Memorial Trophy, presented to the player with the best sportsmanship in the league. Mogilny is now general manager of Admiral Vladivostok in Russia’s Kontinental Hockey League.
