About Tommy Amaker
Tommy Amaker was a McDonalds High School All-American before entering Duke University where he would set numerous school and ACC records as a point guard for the Blue Devils. Following a brief stint as a professional player, Amaker returned to his alma mater as a graduate assistant to begin his collegiate coaching career. In 1997 he took moved to Seton Hall University to become the Pirates head coach where in 4 seasons he made 4 appearances in postseason tournaments (1 NCAA, 3 NIT). In 2001 he took over the Michigan head coaching position for a Wolverine team facing self-imposed sanctions due to a scandal before his tenure. He still managed to find success at UM and in 2004 won the NIT Championship. In 2007, Amaker took over the helm of the University of Harvard where he quickly turned around the Ivy League program. By 2010 he had the Crimson in the NIT and followed that up with 4 straight appearances in the NCAA Tournament, including the schools first NCAA Tournament win in 2013. Amaker has set several major coaching records in Harvards history including most wins in a season (27), highest ranking in the AP poll (22nd), and most Ivy League Conference Championships (5 straight from 2011-2015).
