Tim Wakefield Biography

Tim Wakefield is a Boston Red Sox legend. After making his big league debut with the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1992 he joined the Red Sox in 1995 and played 17 seasons in Boston. After re-establishing himself in the bigs in 1995 he earned the American League Comeback Player of the Year Award. During his time with the Red Sox he led his team to two World Series titles in 2004 and 2007 and earned an All-Star appearance in 2009. His 189 wins with the Red Sox ranks him third all-time in franchise history, and his 200 wins ranks him among the best knuckle-ball pitchers of all-time. With his signature pitch on display each night, he kept hitters off balance and went deep into games, resulting in him accumulating the most innings pitched in Boston history with 3,006. Although he was a notable star on the field, Wakefield was also hugely active in the community, earning eight nominations for the Roberto Clemente Award and finally earning the award in 2010. A year later he hung up his cleats and entered legendary status among some of the Red Sox most notable stars.
