About Mia Hamm
Many great players have represented United States soccer at the international level over the years, but there have been none greater than Mia Hamm. From 1987 to 2004 Hamm scored more international goals than any other player, male or female, in the history of U.S. soccer. In 2001 she earned the first of her consecutive FIFA World Player of the Year awards, which just so happened to be the first two years it was awarded.
She capped her decorated career in 2004 by leading to the US women’s national soccer team to a second Olympic Gold Medal during her tenure. In addition to being a part of two World Cup championship teams and adding a Silver Medal at the 2000 Olympic Games, Hamm was also named the 1997 Sportswoman of the Year. When she retired in 2004 she was named to the FIFA 100, a list of the greatest 125 living soccer players. Three years later she was inducted into the National Soccer Hall of Fame.
