About Abby Wambach
Abby Wambach is an American soccer icon and esteemed member of the National Soccer Hall of Fame. A dominant forward, she holds the U.S. record for international goals (184). Wambach played for the U.S. Women's National Team (USWNT) from 2001 to 2015, earning her first cap in 2001 and competing in four FIFA Women's World Cups (2003, 2007, 2011, 2015) and two Olympics (2004, 2012), winning gold in both Olympic tournaments and the 2015 World Cup. A six-time U.S. Soccer Athlete of the Year, she was named FIFA World Player of the Year in 2012, the first American woman to win since Mia Hamm. Wambach played professionally for the Washington Freedom, magicJack, and Western New York Flash. Post-retirement, she authored the bestsellers “Forward” (2017) and “Wolfpack" (2019), remains a staunch advocate for equality, and co-hosts the podcast “We Can Do Hard Things” with her wife, Glennon Doyle.
