About Steve Yzerman
SteveYzerman is currently the vice president and general manager of the Detroit Red Wings. Yzerman spent all 22 years of his legendary playing career with the franchise. He then had a successful tenure as the general manager of the Tampa Bay Lightning before coming home to Detroit.
Yzerman was originally selected in the 1983 NHL Draft. He came to be the first 18-year old to play in an All-Star game. Yzerman did not stop there, becoming so valuable to the Red Wings that he was named captain before the age of 21 and served as the team’s captain for the next two decades, retiring as the longest-serving captain of any major league sports team in North American history. Yzerman also became one of the few players to win an Olympic gold medal and the Stanley Cup in the same year, in 2002. Yzerman humbly retired in 2006, leaving a mark as the sixth all-time leading scorer in NHL history.
