About Sergio Martinez
Sergio Martinez, also known as “Marvel”, is considered to be one of the best Middleweight and Light Middleweight boxers in the world. A native of Buenos Aires, Argentina, the southpaw Martinez has compiled a 51-3 overall record since turning pro in 1997 at the age of 22. At the beginning of his career he fought in his homeland of Argentina and compiled an undefeated 16-0 record while fighting some of the top world competitors. In 2002 he relocated to Spain and continued to impress, capturing the IBO Light Middleweight title in 2003. Since that time he has won the WBC Light Middleweight title, WBC Latino Title and Lineal Middleweight Championship, which he held for a record 50 months. Outside the ring he is an activist for the cause of domestic violence against women and has supported legislation involving the Violence Against Women Act. Martinez has appeared on several bills as the main event fighter including several events at Madison Square Garden and at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
