About Schuyler Bailar
Schuyler Bailar is a pioneering swimmer, author, educator, and prominent LGBTQ+ advocate. The first openly transgender athlete to compete on an NCAA Division I men's team, he swam breaststroke for Harvard University from 2015 to 2019 after transitioning during a gap year. Born in New York City and raised in McLean, Virginia, Bailar was a top junior breaststroker who committed to Harvard as a female recruit. He came out as a transgender man and joined the men's team, becoming the first publicly documented transgender man to compete as male in any NCAA D1 sport. Bailar is a bestselling author of “He/She/They: How We Talk About Gender and Why It Matters” (2023), an internationally sought-after speaker on trans inclusion, mental health, body acceptance, and authenticity.
