Sam Mitchell

Sam Mitchell is a current assistant basketball coach and a former professional player and head coach in the National Basketball Association. Mitchell was born and raised in Columbus, Georgia and went on to attend Mercer University, where he played for the Bears men’s basketball team. In fact, he became the leading scorer in Bears history as a small forward standing 6’6”. He became the Atlantic Sun Conference Player of the Year in 1985 and that same year, he was drafted by the Houston Rockets. He played professionally until 2002, during which he last debuted for the Minnesota Timberwolves. Mitchell retired with over 8,600 points scored throughout his career. He immediately became an assistant coach for the Milwaukee Bucks after retiring as a player. In 2004, he was hired for the Toronto Raptors head coaching position. He held this position for four years and received recognition as the NBA Coach of the Year in his second to last season with the Raptors. Mitchell later became the assistant coach for the New Jersey Nets and has currently been assisting the Minnesota Timberwolves since the 2014 season. He has established himself as a highly respectable player and coach over the years, continuing to shape the lives of athletes today and lead them to success.
