Bill Self

fter being a successful player in high school and college for the Oklahoma State Cowboys, Bill Self decided to get into coaching the game of basketball with his first position as an assistant coach at the University of Kansas. After leaving Kansas in 1986, Bill returned to the school to become the head coach in 2003. Since then Bill has led the squad to ten straight Big 12 Conference regular season championships. Bill is one of the most successful coaches in recent history with a 325-68 record while coaching at Kansas, and a 532-173 record overall. Another feat that puts Self in rare air is that he is one of only three active coaches to lead three different teams to the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament. Self has led his team to victory in the NCAA Tournament in 2008 as well as two Final Four appearances. Bill has been honored as the coach of the year 11 times in total by several different entities including the Associated Press and the Sporting News. In 2006, Bill and his wife established a non-profit, the Assists Foundation, to raise awareness and funding for several charitable organizations that serve youth initiatives to help improve the lives of young people.
